On October 1st, Maldives broke the Guinness Freediving World Record for the most number of people freediving simultaneously which was previously held by La Scuola del Mare 2’ (Verona), in Torri del Benaco, Italy. 520 freedivers took part in this event including the world freediving champion William Trubridge and the president of the Maldives as well. The event which was called Neyvaa, meaning breath in the Maldivian language Dhivehi, took place in North Malé Atoll is part of the Tourism Day 2019 celebrations.
The record was officially recognised by officials from Guinness at the scene of the event. Several of our divers took part in this event.
