On Earth Hour Day, Maldivers teamed up with Nalahiya Hotel and had a full day clean up at the Western Beach of Vilingili. A large section of the beach and reef was cleaned by a team of volunteers from both organisations. Both scuba divers and snorkelers took charge of clearing garbage from Vilingili Reef, and the rest focused on the beach and the shoreline.
Close to 100 volunteers took part in this special event. Several large truckloads of garbage were collected, consisting of all sorts of waste. From fishing-related trash to household waste. The trash gathered was taken away by the City Council.
