Divemaster

 

Divemaster is the first and biggest step in becoming a dive professional. During the course you expand your dive knowledge, build leadership qualities and develop yourself as a role model. You refine and improve you problem solving abilities as well as your organizational skills. You go through an internship or a series of practical training exercise so as to prepare yourself when you are working for real. As a Dive Master you qualify to supervise and conduct dives and also assist instructors during dive courses.

What can PADI Divemasters do?

  • Work at local dive centers, on live-aboard dive boats, yachts and at exotic resort locations
  • Assist PADI Instructors with students
  • Lead PADI Scuba Divers on guided dive tours
  • Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
  • Teach PADI Discover Snorkeling programs
  • Conduct PADI Scuba Review programs for certified divers
  • Lead certified divers on Discover Local Diving experiences
  • Teach Emergency First Response programs after successful completion of an Emergency First Response Instructor course
  • Teach the Digital Underwater Photography Specialty Course after successful completion of the Specialty Instructor Course.

What are my requirements?

  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  • PADI Rescue Diver certification (or qualifying certification from another organization)
  • Proof of completion of a sanctioned CPR and first program within the past 24 months. The Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) courses meet these requirements.
  • Medical clearance signed by a physician
  • 20 logged dives
  • 18 years old

How long will it take?

  • Two weeks - three months.

Where can I go from there?

As mentioned above you can certify as an Emergency First Response Instructor after completing the Emergency First Response Instructor course and also as a Digital Underwater Photography Specialty Instructor after doing the Specialty Instructor training.
You can join the Instructor Development Course (IDC) and become a PADI Instructor or you may choose to do the Assistant Instructor course before going to the IDC.
